Shirr Genius

First off...my internet was down ALL day yesterday. Grrrr......so, we'll have to skip "Wired Wednesday" this week. But I'll be back next week with some good stuff. Don't forget to send in your questions if you have any!

Now please don't write me and tell me that I meant to entitle my post "Sheer Genius" because I didn't. I meant Shirr Genius. As in "shirring is genius".

I know, welcome to the party...late! But I had never done any shirring until I recently bought a darling Pink Fig pattern. Oh, and I also had to get a sewing machine that wasn't pedal propelled. (not really...but close....mine was REALLY old!)

I know bloggers don't always post things that require a pattern. But this company has some of the CUTEST things! And as a newer seamstress...I need to get more familiar with construction before I go off trying to sew willy nilly.

*Disclaimer....I am in no way affiliated or paid by any of these companies. I just really like their stuff!*

I bought the Lily Top pattern and all the things to complete it. (which was no small task....try picking fabric in THIS STORE. Impossible! Too many cute things!)

This is the picture from the pattern front. How cute is that??

I decided I wanted to make it as a dress for my 3 year old.

It really wasn't too hard. Until I got to the shirring part. (which I'd never done before.) Thank goodness for the WONDERFUL tutorial that is offered here. It was a life saver!

Even after VERY CAREFULLY following the instructions, I thought the whole thing looked too big, and messed up! I was sad that all my time and hard work were going to be wasted. I just couldn't get it to be stretchy and cute like the photo.

But I decided to finish the instructions, and then maybe see if a niece or someone bigger could at least try to wear it.

I went up to my iron. Turned it on high....put it over my rows of shirring.....

And TAH-DAH!!

The magical shirring genie came out and poofed my shirring to shrink up like a dream. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen!! I squealed. Called my Mom. And then quickly tried it on my princess. Perfect fit!

I love it....she loves it....we added an awesomely big fabric flower to the front...just for kicks!

I would highly recommend this line of patterns. It was so much fun to make!!

And now I will be shirring at every possible opportunity.

Just 'cause I can.

And that's how I roll!
