Valentines Houndstooth Makeover

Who doesn't love a good makeover show? Don't you just love it when Lady O takes a sad, sad, individual and makes them look like a million bucks? It's like, such a lesson in life. To look past someone's exterior. And also that we can all be super cute, with just the right accessories!

I wanna try a makeover.
Less Cake {more frosting} style!!!

Wanna play?

Okay. Hobby Lobby 66% off section. You are my bestie. By browsing your isles, I am learning SO much about seeing past an unfortunate exterior.....
And seeing the true potential in an item.

Dear sad brown frame, that was $4.
You want to be cute.
Don't you?
You have such a cute shape, and a very preferable price!

Let's see what we can do to help you out.....

  • First we'll prime you.  And paint you white.
  • Then we'll enlist the trusty Silhouette Machine.  "Miss Scarlett" (yes.  Mine has a name.)
  • We'll go and find a BEYOND AWESOME pattern and print it out in vinyl.

Then take the vinyl "negative" space, and use it as a template.  Now, here's some tips for using vinyl as a stencil:  (learned the hard way)

  • Be soft, like the tenderest you've EVER been, with an intricate vinyl pattern like this.  If you're nice to it...it will stay all in one piece.  And that is preferable.
  • Check for a REALLY good, flat, fit.  Any bubbles are going to cause paint to seep under, and ruin your crisp paint lines.
  • Your lines are crisper, and you run less risk of base paint peeling....if you remove your stencil when the paint is STILL WET.
  • The vinyl doesn't like to stick with wet paint on it.  So if you need to re-position it (like I did) let it dry for a second before trying to use it again.
  • Vinyl will love you for a couple repositionings.  But after being painted on about 3 or 4 times, it just won't stick very well anymore.  Just plan on that. You may have to cut another stencil to continue getting optimal results.

Would you even recognize that sad little brown frame??

Isn't he a SASSY redhead....with his brand new makeover?  I could "XO" him ALL OVER!

I adore a good makeover!

Happy Valentines day, little frame!!!!
