Super Snack-a-roonies

Okay, let me be honest, I could care less about football. If there's a team I really care about (usually college football) I can follow the game enough to enjoy it and know who's winning. Otherwise, couldn't care less.

I'm a basketball girl.

On the other hand, here's some things I DO CARE ABOUT:

Food
Funny Commercials
Family
Food
Friends
Food

(did I mention I like food?)

So the reasons that the Superbowl and I get along are clear.
I get to watch funny commercials and eat with my family. And I guess they play football too...which I don't care about.

(although my brother DID go on a two year ecclesiastical excursion to Pittsburgh. So we might root for them. Just for giggles)

Mostly, it's about food.

This year we're doing a dinner of appetizers.  YUMMERS!  Nothing better than making your entire dinner out of things that are supposed to "set-up" your appetite.

Plus, be honest, little food is cute.

This is a family recipe.  My wonderful Aunt introduced us to it, and now we ALL love it! So, one of my VERY favorite appetizers to take to ANY party, is:

Sausage Stars

They look kinda fancy, they taste like cheezy heaven,
and they are PERFECT for your Superbowl party!

  • 2c. cooked sausage (I like the plain kind, but you could do them spicy, if you're kinda spicy like that)
  • 1 1/2 c. cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 c. monterey jack cheese
  • 1 c. prepared ranch dressing (i use a light version, and can't taste any difference.  i don't love the completely fat free in this recipe though)
  • sliced olives to taste (i just throw in a tiny can of the ones already cut into tiny pieces, drained)
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped red bell pepper
  • Stir all that goodness into a bowl

Next you'll need a package of Won Ton wrappers.  Easy to find.  Usually in the refrigerated section of the produce department.  They have to be refrigerated.

  • Take your Won Ton wrapper and press it down into a muffin tin.  As shown above.
  • The recipe says to spray the pan with a non-stick spray, but I've never had them stick
  • They won't cover the whole thing, but make sure they have a definite "bottom"

Pre-heat your oven to 350

  • cook the formed Won Ton wrappers for 5 minutes
  • then fill with a couple tablespoons of filling.  Enough.  But don't over fill.
  • cook again for about another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is all melt-ee

WANNA SEE WHAT WE'LL BE EATING FOR THE BIG GAME?

Don't they look yummy?  And thank goodness I had to make a few to show you!  I threw down these 4 bad boys for lunch.  With a Diet Coke.  AHHHHHHHHH.......

Let's have the Superbowl EVERY DAY!   YAY!

(recipe note: the filling WILL save for a few days in the fridge, so if you don't use it all, you can use the leftovers the next day.  I've never tried freezing it.  But I think it might work.  Let me know if you try that!  Also, these are pretty much fantastic straight out of the oven.  So I just keep making them as demand requires.  But there's usually LOTS of demand!)

Happy partying!

And I guess go Steelers?
I don't care.

Go hilarious commercials.
If those let me down, I get super bummed!

  8. I watch the SuperBowl for the commercials and food alone. Appetizers are my favorite too. I think this year we'll go simple and do a 7-layer dip with chips. Yummy! Might just have to try this recipe out though. BTW...new follower here! Love your blog!
