Put a Lid on It!

Happy Monday everyone. I swear that EVERY Monday I have great intentions of writing my entry on Sunday night...and schedule it to greet you first thing in the morning. But guess what? My Mondays are much like yours. And thus far, it hasn't happened! Still have that goal though!

Today I want to share another quick organizing tip. We LOVE those wooden toys and dolls from Melissa & Doug. Grandma has the cookie set, and the ice cream, and the sandwich set. My daughter has the pizza, and 2 sets of the dress up dolls.

I love these toys. (and I'm not getting ANYTHING to say that) They are durable, and fun, and awesome. However, I've never loved that the very nice wooden boxes for the dolls don't have lids. The little dresses and shoes fall out all over. And it's really hard for me to require my daughter to pick them up when there isn't anywhere to put them.

I think I've found a great solution!

Gotta hand it to Wal*Mart every now and then. If you're a discerning shopper....sometimes you can find great things there.
*SHHHHH....don't tell Target I said that!*

They have a new line of office things called "@ the Office". You can find it in the office supply isle. The products come in several cool colors including: black, yellow, green, and brown. They have lots of awesome things. But I found this box...and immediately thought of my wooden doll dilemma.

The boxes are made out of very heavy paper, and come with dividers inside. I kind of cut up one of the dividers, to make it work for us. And I also put glue on the ends of the dividers to stabilize them and help them hold up to little 3 year old hands. Look how great the dolls fit. This is 2 whole sets.

I used some scrapbook paper to label the top and added some matching ribbon...just to make it cute. It's also got a good layer of my good friend Mod Podge all across the top. (on the ribbon too....)

Now she can put her dolls away, and carry them around as well....without having them fall all over. Plus....it matches her room, so I don't mind looking at it!

Hope you can find some things that you can put a lid on. Sometimes that's the answer to a quick clean up! Happy Monday!

  4. that is definitely a great idea! I don't have any kids but babysit all the time and I LOVE all the Melissa and Doug toys. I always try to put them back and make them all fit in the wooden containers and you have to get them just right to fit! What a good idea!
