I actually love Easter. But mostly just for the candy. Wait, have I mentioned that before?
Or a better question....have I mentioned that over 1,000 times before? Probably.
This year I decided that I wanted to start decorating for the Spring. Previously I didn't have a lot of decor for Spring/Easter. And if you're starting from scratch, suddenly doing a little decorating can become super pricey.
Here's how I did it on a pretty small budget.
My best friend is the clearance isle at Hobby Lobby. I know that other stores have similar isles as well. They are fantastic. However, I have to admit that in the past I might have walked right past this ghastly golden frame. It is gold, and has some damage on the corner.
But you can see that price tag, right?
This fabulous mirror, as well. It was around $5. And while super dark wood isn't really gonna work at my house....the shapes are really cool.
This vase has been sitting in my stash for years. It was part of a centerpiece for my lil sister's wedding. I kept it, to be nice. But it's not my color either. I almost threw it away a couple months ago. Bad.
This tray was a whopping $2 at the Thrift Store.
Yep. You read right. I went to the thrift store.
I'm not traditionally a thrift type of gal. And I doubt I'll become one. Since I'm still trying to overcome the trauma I suffered when a woman snaked a fabulous mirror right as I was heading to pick it up.
I can't deal with that kind of disappointment. However, I did score this wooden tray, and a pretty cool glass jar. So maybe.
All the new, and ugly, items got a shot of primer. And for those of you who want to ask, YES you need primer. It's your best friend. Keep a couple cans on hand at all times.
(same advice for Diet Coke. A couple cans....ALWAYS)
See Mr. Tray and Mr. Frame there? Yellow and Teal look good on you guys!!
Here you can see how Mr. Rusty Pot got a shot of glossy white, and a new topiary. So much more my style now. So sorry I almost threw you away little man.
And look how Mr. Mirror turned HOT PINK!! Yep. I love her. Definitely a "her". She may not stay pink for long though. Think of the possibilities!!
And you can also see that she joined my "HOP" frames made with my Epic Letterpress machine. There's an Epic Tutorial Here for those guys. They fit right in!
And completely un-spraypainted, meet my biggest splurge for the season.
Ikea, I love you. And I love my Springy, unmatched accessories.
They love hanging out with my sparkly Easter Eggs....which were my ONLY pre-existing decor. I made those about 3 years ago. And I still love them.
So there you have it. My DIY Spring Decor. And it really was on the CHEAP.
Without the vases it was under $20. And with them, it was around $40. Not too shabby.
I'm heading back to bed now. I have a HORRIBLE cold, and a fever.
I'll be working on getting a Creative Estates wrap-up ready. And a couple other fun projects. Hopefully. And then again, maybe I'll just go to sleep for 2 days. Who knows. :)
I love the colors you chose, and that mirror is FANTASTIC! I'd love one like that. Hope you get feeling better!
ReplyDeleteLove the color combos, I really must get over this fear I have of painted wood.... because I love the look of it, I'm just afraid it's not going to turn out when I try.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors Ellie, you did good.
ReplyDeleteSadly I've only been to a hobby lobby like 2 times, I know, hehe. It's only like 10 minutes from me too. I think I'm going to start going more often.
Come link up girl, I'd love to have you. Stop by anytime to say hello!!!

Oooo!! Ahhh! I loved looking at your bright colored post!! My hubby would never allow me to bring those colors in the house...so I am drooling over them. ;-) So, I have a question for you. How did you make the cute decorative eggs that you did 3+years ago? I think they are adorable and I am slacking on my spring/easter decor too. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThose colors are gorgeous Ellie. specially the teal and yellow mix! I want to go treasure hunting at hobby lobby right now :)
ReplyDeleteThat is all just WAY too cute! I can only dream about having your creativity... maybe someday...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the transformations! Do you have to sand before priming?

ReplyDeleteGorgeous, just like everything else you do! Hobby Lobby is my most favorite store. The closest one is about a 30 minute drive, but that's a good thing, b/c if it were any closer I'd probably spend all my time and money there!!
