The Little Pink Holiday Book

Well, it's November 2nd. And as I mentioned, November 1st is the official "opening" of my Christmas season.

I LOVE Christmas.

I LOVE Christmas music, I LOVE Christmas movies, I LOVE Christmas treats, and I LOVE Christmas traditions.

One of those traditions is that around this time of year, inside my Mother's purse, a new "book" would appear. Usually a small book, with lined paper. It was usually really stylish too.

Being a semi-non observant kid, I never thought much about it. But as I grew I realized that during the holidays, she referred to that book. A lot.

And now that I'm an adult, I realize that I should have been more curious. That little notebook contained all the secrets of our entire holiday planning. All the gifts she bought all the ones she intended to buy. The list of ideas for gifts. And lists of yummy foods and ingredients to make our family gatherings all that they could be.

It was her little "black book" for the holidays.

In truth, I'm glad I never discovered that book. I hate spoiled surprises. And even though I know what's in the book, now, I stay far away from it! Why would I want to spoil all that magic?

Now that I'm a big girl. I think it's time I get my own book. Don't you think?

I found these little beauties at Target. The store of champions. They are soft bound and really small. But they'll fit inside my purse so nice!

Of course I can't just leave it plain like that. (although I am really diggin' how it's Christmas "hot pink" instead of traditional "red")

Of course, I can't just leave well enough alone...

But I swear it only took about 20 minutes.

A little ribbon hot glued around the outside. A fabric covered button. And some rub-on's. (letters from Making Memories, and flourish from Basic Grey)

And suddenly my holiday "black/pink book" is super cute.

And just to finish off, there's little tabs to mark the different Holiday categories.  (american crafts rub-ons)

Now I feel ready.  I got out the Kenny & Dolly Christmas while I was putting my little book together.  And I'll tell 'ya.  Nothin' makes me feel giddier than a little "I Believe in Santa Claus".

I know, I know, Thanksgiving is yet to happen.  So if you're not really into early Christmas celebration, I understand.  Well.  Actually I don't understand.  But I respect your decision to only listen to The Oak Ridge Boys for 25 days.  That's fine.

But at Ellie's house.  We're gettin' out our list, and checkin' it twice!

  3. I'm with you on Christmas, the season is way too short, gotta start early, like Nov. 1.

Your mom had a great idea with that little book, and yours is so cute. I'm going to have to get one, although I probably won't take the time to pretty it up, at least I can attempt to be somewhat organized.

  4. I love it that you love christmas so much! So do I. In fact, I've been listening to christmas music since the end of september. Christmas is the most magical time of year, why wouldn't we want to celebrate it as long as possible? Love your blog. Thanks for sharing.

As for thanksgiving, well us Canadians get that out of the way in OCtober too so there's nothing to take our mind off of Christmas!!!

  6. Your book is adorable!

I just use the same 5x7-type notebook that I carry all year. But I get a new one out in October (doesn't matter how many pages were left in the previous one) to start Christmas planning in it.

Frankly, it is the most organized my life ever is. :)

  8. Oh, super secret holiday book. Love it. I need one just to remember what I have for everyone. I buy it, hide it and forget. That's what happens when Christmas shopping starts in like Sept.
