I spend a lot of my time with words. If you know me personally, you know I talk....A LOT. I also write a lot. And I pretty much adore big long words. Words that make you sound intelligent. Even if you're really not. (that's me!)
Because I use words SOOOO much, I'm perplexed by having to use only a FEW words for something. (that's why twitter and I are having a hard time understanding one another.)
So I was intrigued when I saw "words for 2011" popping up all over blog land. People were defining their hopes for the new year with ONE WORD!
One?
*gasp*
I very rarely use one word. For anything.
And how could I encapsulate all the things I want for this year with just one word? I have 10,000 goals. 20,000 projects.
Ah Ha!
I've got it. And it's perfect, for me.
wait for it.....wait for it....
I decided, in order to remember my word. My one word goal. I ought to have it hanging in my home. So I could read it frequently. All the time.
Because, in fact, this is such a perfect word for me.....I might have trouble EVER replacing it with a better one.
- I started by purchasing a frame that I really liked the PRICE on. Hobby Lobby's clearance isle and I are having a TORRID affair.
- Just beware that you may get home and remove the back, only to find exactly why this frame was 70% off. Broken glass.
- Gratefully, the brake doesn't go into the area that will be viewed. So no biggie. Still worth saving 70%. (the frame was only $4)
- I sprayed it white to better convey the feeling I am going for.
- Then I added my "word" in white vinyl.
WANNA SEE?
It's possibly the most perfect one word goal I've ever made.
*okay, it's the ONLY one word goal I've ever made*
- When the kids are screaming. BREATHE
- When your daughter throws up for the 3rd time....all over her sheets. BREATHE
- When your husband doesn't read your mind. Again. BREATHE
- When things don't meet your expectations. BREATHE
- When a friend lets you down. BREATHE
- When church seems like a giant chore. BREATHE
- When you cannot look at one more load of un-folded laundry. BREATHE
- When you ate a treat anyway. BREATHE
- When you don't get sauce with your chicken nuggets. BREATHE
- When you feel like you cannot do one more thing. BREATHE
What is your "word" gonna be? It's not too late. In fact, it's a great time. The rush of resolutions has past. You've probably broken some. If not all.
Now sit down and consider ONE thing. Something doable. Something inspiring.
I'll be here waiting to hear. And BREATHING.

love the "one word" focus. my word for 2011 and beyond is CHARITY. here's my post. http://joyfilledfamily.blogspot.com/2011/01/reflections-for-new-year.html
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I have a frame (okay, a lot of frames), a cricut, vinyl, and a word "Gratitude". So in a word, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI love your word. I just might have to steal it from you. Not the actual word in the frame (although I have a rough idea of where you live, so I just might). I love the thought behind your choice- and the fact that it's much simpler than my 1001 resolutions for 2011, but still lofty enough that it will challenge and uplift! Thanks for sharing, I needed this.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Amy
Love your word choice! And I especially love how you framed it and made it all prettified!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I love the word, the idea, and the craft. (Hee, hee, hee I just had to use the word craft because I know it makes you twitch :) You rock!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful project!!! I love the way it turned out, and what a perfect word.
ReplyDeleteWhat!? I thought I was havig a torrid affair with Hobby lobby's clearance aisle! That two-timing snake! Love this. I can never come up with just word but breathing is not something I do enough of lately.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking my word should be "run" since that is pretty much all I do these days in order to achoplish the goals I've set for this year. But if I put that in a frame, I would have to put "survive" next to it, and then next to that I would put "muddle" for the days when I feel like I can't run or survive, but I can muddle through! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteMy word for life is RELAX. I have it big on my wall for the same reason. I LOVE the frame :)
ReplyDeleteSimple. Gorgeous. LOVE!
ReplyDeleteThe word "Breathe" Is pretty perfect for me...My husband Nick has A critical lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis and this is just tooo perfect. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you chose a word. This was my first year doing this too. And I like it so much more than resolutions. And I am doing better because ot it. My word is "Move".
ReplyDeleteHowever, I wish KC would pick up your word though...especially on the "no sauce with your chicken nuggets".
That is a wonderful idea and the frame is adorable!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your word. I have the word Breathe in vinyl that I just haven't put up on the wall yet. My word for the year is PATIENCE
ReplyDeleteOh man!! I missed this post.. I love it!! I'm going to do it!!

That one word has gotten me through many days. So simple yet beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSimple. Elegant. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as always! Love the single word and the white is striking.
Absolutely adore this, and your display of it is just darling. This would look so cute on a brightly painted wall and serves a wonderful reminder. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and you're having an affair with the clearance aisle too?! He really gets around... ;)
My word is Polish. Thanks for reminding me I picked one! Polish is to remind me to fix up what I have instead of being focused on acquiring more. In ALL areas of life.
