Why Zarbees Cough Syrup & I are Friends...

I've spent about a month of restless sleep. My poor 8 year old has had an annoying hacking cough almost all winter. Poor kid. I feel so bad for him. I feel worse for his dad and I. We're tired.

Enter, Zarbees Children's Cough Syrup. And the reason why I might have found a new BFF....

Last week I was invited to come to an event introducing a new product to local bloggers. Now, I KNOW that this concept is not new in the blogging world. But it was certainly new to me. And I PROMISE that my blog is NOT turning into a place where I advertise millions of random products.

But I was intrigued by this one because of my poor son's cough.
I just wanna sleep people!
So I accepted the invitation to learn about the product.

We were introduced to the product by it's inventor, a local Pediatrician, Dr. Zak Zarbock.  (please tell me you would find it hard to sit in a room with a pediatrician and NOT want to say...."so my son has this cough....what can I do?"  I tried to refrain from holding a personal appointment in the conference room.)

He explained the problem that spurred him to invent this childrens cough syrup.  It's one that's NOT new to parents.
You aren't supposed to give cough syrup to little kids anymore.
I don't get it.
I understand if they've decided that certain things aren't good for little kids anymore.  Or if loser people OD'ed their kids, and now we all have to pay for their mistakes.
What I don't get is that there's no replacements.
Do they think that coughing isn't just as hard on kids as it is on adults?  Because I know when I get a cough....out comes the big daddy.  The one that burns going down.

This might be the answer guys.  The one that fixes that little empty shelf.
It is indicated for kids all the way down to 12 months!  (but not younger, because of the honey)

Zarbees is 100% all natural.  I can read, pronounce, and identify each ingredient listed on the label.  That's kind of unheard of on a medicine bottle!

It's based in blending the anti-oxidant power of dark honey.  Plus has some pretty awesome doses of immune boosting Vitamin C as well.   I like that Zarbees isn't intended to treat the cough with a drug.  It coats the throat and soothes it with the natural honey.

I gotta admit.  I'm a medicine girl.  I'm not a nature gal.  I don't try and treat my illnesses by rubbing flowers on my pinkie toe.  Some people are in to that.  I'm not.

I was tons of skeptical.  And tons of desperate, people!

This is my cute friend Veronica trying out the meds.  That's right!  We tasted it.  I did too.  In fact, I taste ALL my kids meds.

I don't know if that's weird, but I do.  I gotta know what they're in for.  And I warn them if it's gonna be nasty.  I figure that's only fair.

They have a lemon one.  (Which didn't get along with my taste buds) A Cherry one.  (which I didn't think was bad at all.  Particularly when we tasted a new version that should be out soon) But the grape was a winner.
Almost yummy.
Still medicine.  But that's good.  I don't want my kids to mistake it for treats.

Get prepared.  Because it's BROWN.  Which was hard for me.  But I do like that there's no artificial stuff in there to make it the "purple" that I expect.  What difference does it make?  Really?

Now, for the part you actually care about.....DID IT HELP WITH OUR NIGHT COUGHING SITCH?

IT DID!!

Can you believe that?

My 8 year old son thought it tasted pretty good.  He was glad to not have the kind that tastes all burn-ee.  (yes.  I have been giving him 1/2 doses of the "no-no" stuff.  C'mon!  The kid is miserable!)

And he was particularly happy that it's been helping him not cough at school.  Because they won't let him take cough drops, and it embarrasses him to have coughing fits in class.  He says that it hasn't been a problem in the last few days.  YAY!

Zarbees might have fixed our little problem.  Wouldn't that be great?

Certainly, you might have different experiences.   But this is HONESTLY ours.

I'm excited because I was given a bottle to keep here at home.  Zarbees also makes "to go" packets.  That have a single dose in a sealed packet.   That would be fab to throw in my purse.

They also have a brand new product coming out called "Natraflu" that is a kid safe, natural, honey based, flu relief drink.  It is aimed at soothing flu symptoms and promoting restful sleep.
Oooohh!  Sign me up!

Where can you get it?  Well.  Online, for sure.  Walgreens.  And in Utah, at Associated Food Stores (i.e. Maceys, Harmons, etc....)

And they offer a really great service on Twitter for those pesky "mom questions" that you have, and don't need to head out to the pediatrician for.  @ZarBeesNurse is an "on-call" RN who will answer basic medical questions for you through twitter.  We met her.  She's a real pediatric nurse, with tons of experience.  That's kinda cool!

Anyway, readers, again I PROMISE that I'm not becoming any kind of a "review" type blogger. In fact, I'm heading downstairs to make something right this second. And I'll show it to you on Friday!

But I really felt it was important to take advantage of an opportunity to help my cute boy, who's tired of coughing. And to help his Mom & Dad....who are tired of not sleeping.

And I gotta share it with you. 'Cause I TRULY feel like it helped him. And I'm kinda really excited about that!

I'll be back tomorrow with a super new installment of "Stranded on a Crafting Desert Island"

*I was NOT paid by Zarbees for this review. However, I was given some of their products to try with my family. These opinions are COMPLETELY my own, and in no way reflect a replacement for the advice of a medical professional.*

  6. Great review, I love zarbee's it's the only liquid medicine my toddler will take without voluntarily puking it up. I agree that it does wonders to help my kids sleep when they have a cough.

  11. We recently moved to Germany, where the locals use honey to cure all sorts of ailments. Thanks for the review of ZarBee's. I will be telling my adult kids to use it on for our precious grandkids. I am glad to have found your blog!

  13. I know this is an old post, but I just came across your blog, and was going through your posts. I'm not going to steer you away from this medicine, because I'm all for whatever works. However, I wanted to let you know a tip I was just given for coughing, which stops it almost instantly, and it really works. I tried it on my son Monday, and it worked like magic. All you need to do is rub Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of their feet, and then put their socks on. It's that simple, and it stops the coughing in no time. It works for all ages too. Best wishes!
