(were you NOT aware? OH NO! You're in trouble!)
I want to start by stating that I was born to the world's most FANTASTIC woman. Hands down.
(I'm sorry if you had been under the impression that YOU had the world's most fantastic mother. I hate to burst your bubble.)
No matter what trials I've had to go through in this life. They pale in comparison to the blessing it has been to be her daughter. She is an example of strength, loyalty, nurturing, endurance, and positive attitude. And plus, she's super cute to boot! (right?)
This is one of my favorite pictures of me with the "girls" in my family. My Mom, my sister, and my sister-in-laws. That's my super cute Mom. Right there in the middle. Hard to pick her out, right? She's just one of the girls.
I adore BEING a mother. And I enjoy HAVING a Mother.
However, what I DON'T enjoy is that not everyone loves this holiday. Nor does it seem like a celebration for some amazing women.
- Some of my dear friends have lost their Mothers (some very prematurely) and Mother's Day is a sad reminder that they don't have that person here with them on this earth.
- Some of my other friends do not have children of their own. While some people choose not to become Mother's, these sweet women YEARN to have children. Every second. Of every day. And this holiday seems like it's mocking them.
- Some others have sent their children back to heaven. And this day makes them aware that their arms are a little bit empty.
Certainly Mothers Day is a wonderful day, and worthy of a HUGE CELEBRATION. In fact, we should probably celebrate Mothers more that just 24 hours each year.
(someone tell that to my kids. I need more than just a 24 hour break. Geez. Who's in charge of benefits at this job? H. R.? Anyone?)
But I want to change it to "Mothering Day".
Mothering, the act of caring for another.
Now THAT is a universal trait given to women. All women.
A celebration of the things that make women unique. That make them inherently giving, and nurturing, and soft. Those are still the things I love in my mother. But they are also things I adore in my son's school teacher. Or in my Aunts. Or in women that I admire.
And they are traits that I hope to work on in myself. And perfect.
If you are running short on time for a Mother's Day present....(and PS....you TOTALLY are!)
I have this little printable quote available for you. I printed it out this morning and put it in a FAN-TAS-TIC bright colored frame. I love it! It would make a really thoughtful gift. And not just for your "Mom". But for a woman who has taught you about "mothering". By taking care of you, or nurturing you. Or someone you admire.
Because I am CONFIDENT that most women cannot be over-appreciated.
No one can. Really.
"You're amazing" is never a bad sentiment.
"life isn't about finding yourself
life is about creating yourself"
George Bernard Shaw
I have pondered this quote for DAYS now. Days and days. And the more I think about it the more I ADORE it.
It's about wanting to be the woman you admire. And discovering what you expect from yourself.
And rather than comparing yourself to women you aspire to be like....and feeling defeated.....
it's about MAKING yourself into the person you want to be.
Man. That couldn't possibly be more empowering!
GIRL POWER!
This printable is sized at 5x7. It won't look optimal if printed at a larger size. To use, click on image, enlarge to full size, right click & save to your desktop, and print as you'd like! Super simple!
The same usual rules apply for LCMF prinatbles:
(Please....personal use only on the printables. Do not re-post without linking back to this blog. Do not alter, remove watermark, or claim as your own. Feel free to e-mail me or announced.greetings(at) gmail(dot) com with any use questions. Thanks!)
*edit---(I also had a request to make this quote in Spanish. And while I don't normally alter printables by request, I thought this was a really great idea! Plus she gave me the Spanish translation, which I wouldn't know. :) So for you, Olga...)
Have an amazingly, fantastic weekend.
Remember a woman who has inspired you.
Whether it be your ACTUAL Mother or not.
Remember your own worth as a woman. Regardless of whether you have children in your care.
Remember the power you have to become all you want to be.
And create that within yourself.
I'm a yearner, so I love the idea of "mothering day"
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I hope you havea beautiful and blessed mothers day.
Amen, sista!!! Agree to everything you said. Thanks for thinking of ALL the ladies out there! Days like this really do generalize and unfairly categorize. Super sucks when you don't fit the "mold". Once again, YOU ROCK!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this print! Another gorgeous freebie- Lara you are too kind!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Amy

Well said. I wish I had a picture like this with my sisters and mom - it really is a fabulous picture. Happy Mothering Day!
ReplyDeleteI've felt this way about Father's Day for years (since my dad was absent, even before he died)...why didn't I ever make the connection with Mother's Day?
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothering Day, my dead. XOXOXO

ReplyDeleteThanks for the printable...just fyi...on the Spanish translation it say Visa instead of Vida. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteHi I just wanted to say thank you for the great free printable. I love how you put it together with the bold frame. I am featuring this printable tomorrow on TheRedPolkaDot tomorrow and just wanted to say THANK YOU! Have a great Mother's Day!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that photo of you with your girls! And I love the idea of Mothering vs. just Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothering Day Lara! and Happy Weekend!
I think this is one of my favorite posts so far. As a mom without a mom and a friend of friends who can't conceive, I can totally relate.
ReplyDeleteOne little side note, though-- the Spanish version should say "Vida" and not "Visa" on the second line. :)
Thank you. I agree w/ Mothering Day. The children's church leader at church is childless...yet she is a fantastic "mother" for the children.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love your printables...I often print them and use them for my visiting teaching gifts :) (If you are LDS you know what I am talking about. If not, google it ;) Much love!

i wanted to thank you for this. not just the printable but the meaning behind it as well. it makes so much sense. my siblings and i were taken away from our mom when we were little because she wasnt taking care of us. alcoholic need i say more. and even though i am just now starting to talk to her again it still hurts that she was never there. i have my aunts to thank for teaching me the little bit i do know about being a mother. i am learning as i go with my daughter. i dont have a "mother" to lean on for support rather my aunts who help where they can. but its just not the same as a mother.
ReplyDeleteanyhow thanks again.
Lara, what a fun picture of all you girls! Your mom really is a sweet lady, and not only are you lucky to have here for a mom, but she is lucky to have you guys for daughters and daughter in laws. :)
ReplyDeletePS I've been blogstalking your blog for a while. (Kurst told me about it.) It's a very fun blog with great ideas!
Thanks! I love that quote. :)
ReplyDeleteThis post made me smile - I love your concept to change it to "Mothering Day"!! And LOVE the printable even more. Of course I have to have it in that super cool yellow frame - I adore that with the gray print!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. It is just how I feel and you just made me happy reading it. I thank you for this post and I really love your changed wording to "Mothering Day". I am going to remember that. As I sat in my son's classroom today while his teacher put on a nice program for all the kid's mothers I wish I had brought her something. A token to say "thank you for being one of his mother's in his life" Especially since know she is not married and has no children of her own and she is now in her 40's-50's. I think I just might print this off and give it to her late. Thank you. Happy Mothering Day!
ReplyDeleteIm with Kari...beautiful Lara! Thanks so much for such a sweet post and an motivating printable!

Great post. I love the quote. Thanks for sharing that! I totally agree with everything you said. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I appreciate this so much. I have 4 great step kids and I know I am a mother. I may not have given birth to any of them but I am a mother just the same and I wouldn't change it for the world.
ReplyDeleteHappy mothering Day! I love it!!!

Just wanted to say thank you for your beautiful post. I'm in the yearner category, and after a few miscarriages this day is one of the hardest holidays for me. Thank you for recognizing the heartache that some women face on a day like today, and honoring all women in such a positive way. I like the idea of Mothering Day!
ReplyDeleteLovely post, lovely sentiment. But let's not, in an effort to be inclusive, lose what this day is about. Mothering is about bringing up a child with care and affection, or looking after someone kindly and protectively. So let's celebrate that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for these beautiful thoughts on the nurturing nature of women. (I wrote something similar on my blog for "Mothering" Day.) Great job on the photos too. I love the grass!
ReplyDeleteWarmly, Michelle
Love the quote an printable and that photo of the girls is adorable.
