No Shirt, No Service

Yesterday I mentioned that we went to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party while at Disneyland last week.

Both my kids dressed up in their costumes (Cinderella and Superman). But the adults decided to wear tee-shirts featuring Disney Villains.

Once we got there, we kinda wished that we had dressed up. We saw some AWESOME costumes. Like I REALLY wanted the princess dresses (with hoop skirts) that the girls from Seattle had. (that's right, I asked them where they got their dresses. That's how much I loved them) And I'll still forever be on the lookout for an authentic Villian costume. Mostly Queen of Hearts or Malifecent or the Wicked Queen. But I'm a picky stinker. So I'll only do it if it looks awesome.

I spent LOTS of time making us tee-shirts, and I feel really good about how they turned out.

Now, they were made in the middle of the night. Not kidding. And after I very meticulously recorded how I made my Alice Shirt I kind of tuned out from photography.

Consequently, there wasn't ever any pictures taken of the Halloween shirts.

I thought I'd share the ones that we took at the park though. I'm missing a couple. I made one for my husband with the Headless Horseman graphic I used on my Halloween art. And I also made one for my brother in law with Captain Hook. I guess I just never snapped a photo on the day he wore it.

Anyway, here's a look at the rest of the shirts:

My cute 3 year old was DEVESTATED that she wasn't getting her own shirt. (because she would be wearing a costume that night)
I asked her what she would want on a shirt, and of course she said Cinderella.
But it didn't end there.
It needed to be a "pink Cinderella" with purple and yellow colors too.  (because she's decided that they are the only appropriate colors for "girls")

She was very satisfied with her shirt, which read:
"if the shoe fits...."

If my daughter was getting a shirt....that meant my son needed one too.
His favorite character is Jack Skellington. Which was super appropriate.
I realized, fairly quickly, that this design is TOO DETAILED! Think about this graphic, and anywhere that gray shows through....there was a piece of freezer paper that had to be ironed on. AAAAARGH!
But I could tell it was gonna be really cool, if I just persisted. I love it when it's all DONE!

His creepy shirt is a long sleeved gray tee-shirt. It reads:
"this is halloween"

And lastly is my Mom, my Sister, and me. We loved our Villain Gal tees. And both my Mom and Sis were able to get their pictures taken with their "Villains". I never saw the Queen of Hearts. Sniff. Now I guess I have to go back! :)

I used Cheri's Saran Wrap technique to do both of the Villains on my Mom and sister's shirts. And also on some of the lettering for mine. It gives the paint a very "weathered" look. And makes it look aged. I was VERY happy with the results. Just remember to dab it off A LOT before putting it to your shirt. And you need a lot less than you think. Don't over do it!

My cute Mom loves the Wicked Witch. The witch's silhouette wasn't reading very well, so I went with the Wicked Queen instead. Her shirt reads:
"something Wicked this way comes"

My little sister's shirt is kind of my fave. I love Malifecent. She's evil and awesome. Plus the "Me" part is painted in this really metallic hot pink paint, and in person....it's awesome. Hers reads:
"Now, you shall deal with ME!"

My shirt was the last one. I LOVE Alice in Wonderland, and as a companion to my Alice Shirt, I decided to make one with the Queen of Hearts.
Isn't she awesome?
I love when she gets all crazy.
(wonder why? Oh yeah. It's 'cause I'M CRAZY!!)
I was all set to cut out "Off With their Heads" as my quote. But I felt it was too predictable.
So I Googled Alice in Wonderland quotes, and was reminded of one of my favorite parts of the movie:
"If I lose my temper, you lose your head! Understand?"
Such a great quote for me....and for MOST Moms! Am I right?

  4. These are awesome! My daughter and I just recently did our first freezer paper Ts and we fell in love with the technique! Ours are much more primitive. We're cutting everything out by hand. Now, I'm off to read about your love affair with your Silhouette because I can't decide which machine to purchase myself.

  6. Where did you find the SVG (or whatever digital file you used) for the Cinderella shirt? My daughter is obsessed with all things Disney Princess, and I'm in the middle of planning her 4th birthday party and was thinking of making shirts for all of the girls to take home as a party favor. Would love your help! Thanks!

  7. Meagan, I don't have an e-mail address for you....so I hope you'll check back here.

I actually made the file for all the silhouettes in Illustrator, and cut them out using an Illustrator plug-in for my Silhouette.

I believe Silhouette has a "trace" feature that may work similar to this. But at the time, they did not offer software for my Mac. So I was only able to use the Illustrator program. I'm not sure with other programs. But I think it's possible in most of them to "trace" an image.
